ABOUT US

Fisheries play a significant role in the economy and social fabric of Newfoundland and Labrador. However, there is a lack of access to and availability of locally caught fish and seafood in the province. Although direct sales of seafood from fish harvesters has been permitted since September 2015, there haven't been mechanisms in place to facilitate buying local due to a prioritization of export markets.

The Fish Market App offers to fill this gap by providing a platform to connect fish harvesters to consumers in Newfoundland and Labrador and elsewhere and increase access to locally caught, sustainably harvested fish and seafood while promoting fisheries sustainability and food sovereignty.

The app functions as a hub for fish harvesters and consumers, who are able to navigate through an interactive map of coastal communities containing fishers' profiles connected to a chat interface. Users are able to sell and purchase fish and seafood and exchange any other information about the fishery product - similarly to the interaction you would have

at a local fish market!

Whether you are a fish harvester interested in increasing your sales, a consumer looking for fresh, locally caught fish & seafood,

or someone who wants to support the idea,

get in touch today to learn more about The Fish Market!
