THE FISH MARKET IS AWARDED OCEAN BRIDGE'S YOUTH OCEAN ACTION GRANT!

January 11, 2021

The Youth Ocean Action Grant supports community service projects being conducted by volunteer youth ambassadors in the Ocean Bridge program delivered by Ocean Wise. The aim of the grants is to boost the participant's capacity to benefit their community, build meaningful service projects, and benefit ocean health & literacy through their service.

Our founder Mirella Leis has been awarded $500 CAD for the delivery of The Fish Market community service project while volunteering as an Ocean Bridge Youth Ambassador. The project, aiming to address unsustainable resource extraction, counts with the collaboration of nine partners and a team of web designers and developers to deliver the first prototype of The Fish Market App by the end of March 2021.

The app will connect fish harvesters to consumers in St. John’s and Petty Harbour, NL, Canada, with the ultimate goal of increasing access to locally caught, sustainably harvested fish and seafood and promoting fisheries sustainability and food sovereignty in the province.
