OUR STORY
The Fish Market is a startup social enterprise focused on increasing availability of and access to locally caught, sustainably harvested fish and seafood by connecting fish harvesters to local consumers in Newfoundland and Labrador. Founded by Mirella Leis, an Oceanographer & Geographer with a passion for Sustainable Fisheries, today we count with the support of a team of four web designers and developers and ten partner organizations with funding from Ocean Wise through a Youth Ocean Action Grant. OUR WORK
At The Fish Market, we believe that achieving sustainable fisheries starts from (re)connecting to our heritage and our seafood. Our team of web designers and web developers is preparing a mobile app that is innovative in its purpose, modern in its look without losing sight of tradition, while also being user-friendly. Through the app, fishers can directly sell their catch to local consumers, increasing their revenue while contributing to food sovereignty, and consumers can connect with fishers, increasing their access to locally caught seafood while contributing to fisheries sustainability.
